Give yourself permission to take a break. It can be so refreshing. So much has happened since October 2015. I took a long break from this blog. I took a long break from a lot of things. That’s a story for another day, but one I do plan to tell. In the meantime let’s do a quick catch up. October – break from blog. Then followed by a snowy few months of hibernation. Christmas and then New Years. And I found out I was expecting. Enter nursery planning.

We are well underway with upstairs renovations, but nowhere near ready to put a little one up there. So in the meantime I’ll just keep dreaming up the nursery and preparing our dining room/bedroom/nursery for our sweet girls arrival!

Master Bathroom

I am no design/mood board master, but putting these together helps me wrap my brain around how things that I might want for the remodel will play together. This particular board is the master bath and I’m pretty happy with the way it is shaping up! I keep going back and forth between silver and brass fixtures, but for now this is where we are with it.

I like trying to mix up textures and patterns and a little vintage, modern and traditional where I can. The latest conversations in the house are on what we do with the vanity – open shelves or drawers. What we know for sure is that even though everyone is doing it I think we are pretty set on subway tile and penny tile. Though we may go with the square subway and take it to the floor… hum. So many options.
Any suggestions?

Master Bath Inspiration
Choosing materials in our master bath renovation feels like deciding on a tattoo. It’s so permanent and expensive if you want to start over or if twenty years later they have decided to pejoratively refer to you your lower back tattoo a tramp stamp. (I just typed a twenty minute rant here and then deleted it. You can thank me later.)

I’m eating, dreaming, sleeping, walking and wishing all things upstairs renovation. Some nights my dreams are so realistic I wake up thinking it may have actually happened. At this point I’m almost afraid that I’ll wake up having taken a sledge hammer to the wall. Which I’ll of course blame on sleep walking or zombie sleep or some sort of sleep takeover that I have no control over. (I’ve been known to take on random renovation projects mid week out of nowhere when the hubs is away… now.. to just get him out of the house.)

As with each home renovation project, one spends probably 30 times longer than the actual renovation will take to execute researching and pinning and finding inspiration all over the internet. Rabbit hole after rabbit hole. But this time I noticed a serious trend in my pinning. I might have a serious interior design love affair with Amber Interiors. I want to put everything she does in my purse. Ahhh maaayyyyy zahhhh hiiinnng. I literally sit in front of my computer oohing and ahhing. So if any of you are looking for a Christmas present for me let me just help you out. She does e-decor. BOOM! I’d love to have the entire house done, but I’d settle on a room or a corner of a room.

So without further ado here are a few of the bathrooms I’ve been drooling over. Want to see more of my bathroom inspiration? Head on over to my bathroom Pinterest board.

I love this. I love everything about this. The photo is from the Sartorialist and is titled “On the Street…Late Night, Paris”. Need I say more.

Today I have come to terms with the fact that I’m just not good at uploading things…ANYTHING. I’ve got the documenting phase down. Yep… I’m good there. I snap the photos or make sure I ask someone to, I create the mood boards and design files and then they get buried deep in the mess I have on my laptop. So now here I am heading into the new year attempting, yet again, to tackle this mess and to create a new habit. They say it takes what…about 21 days or 66 days or something to form a new habit? hum…

With that out of the way, today I post a sprinkling of my engagement photos shot back in January of 2013. Good grief. Do you see what I mean? That was almost two years ago! Although it feels like only yesterday.  As for the shoot, we kept it local at Raccoon State Park, our backyard and our living room.

How about a little holiday gift guide? A Pittsburgh gift guide to be exact! I decided to focus on items made or sold right here in Pittsburgh, PA. Buy local, friends. There are incredible people creating unique and amazing items right under our noses. Supporting local artists is a sure-fire way to give a gift made with love and dedication while supporting the dreams of small business owners!

Do you have a favorite locally made item? Let me know about it!

I am way behind the ball on this one. Have you heard of Warby Parker?

I love glasses, but I actually get anxiety at the thought of picking out a new pair. I recently did just this at my local eye doctor. I trusted the purchase, of something I planned to wear on my face, to that of a perfect stranger. I was desperate for assistance. The doctor had run out of my prescription contacts and had provided me with a slightly less than my prescription strength contact to put into my right eye and sent me on my way to look for glasses. I had narrowed it down to 4 pairs and just could not pull it together, but the nice lady at the store did me the honors of choosing a pair for me. Thankfully, as it turns out, she didn’t do me wrong.

Now just think if I could have brought those 4 pairs of glasses home with me, spent 5 days rotating them on my face, getting the opinion of those nearest and dearest to me all while being able to see. That is exactly what Warby Parker lets you do. In comes “home try on” . Let me start by telling you that the last 3 people I have complimented on their glasses have told me they were Warby Parker. I knew it was time to finally look into this and I’m totally trying it out. 5 glasses, 5 days, free shipping both ways and then when you finally decide on a pair, those puppies are only $95 a pair and that includes your lenses. This is a no brainer and I can’t wait to place an order. I’ve narrowed it down to the following.
Did I mention they “do good”? For every pair you buy they give a pair to someone in need. As if you needed another reason. As if. (that was my clueless reference for the month. I promise)
